Born June 28 1977 in Texas, Stoermer moved to Las Vegas as a young child, attending Chaparral High School, where he played trumpet in the jazz ensemble. He graduated in 1995. He later took music classes and studied philosophy.

He got to know The Killers in 2002 and filled in as a temporary bass player off and on throughout the year. He officially joined the band later that year, after Ronnie Vannucci Jr. joined the band on drums. Stoermer's greatest influences include The Beatles, The Who, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis,and David Bowie. He enjoys the writings of Henry Miller. He neither drinks alcohol nor smokes tobacco.

Mark can often be seen as very quiet, a deep voice. Various interviews have acused Mark as being "grumpy", but he actually is not.
